On Our Sleeves

A national movement to promote children’s mental wellness and prevent crises

Because kids don’t always wear their thoughts on their sleeves, it can be difficult to tell when a child is struggling.

When To Worry About Your Child’s Mental Health

If a child cries whenever they get frustrated, refuses to attend a social event, has difficulty sleeping, or constantly picks fights, caregivers may become worried — especially if this is a significant change. While these experiences can be normal as children grow, concerning behavior that lasts for several weeks may need additional attention.

How can you tell if your child is experiencing normal developmental changes or if these new behaviors signal a mental health concern? Download our handout When To Worry About Mental Health (also available in Spanish) to help determine if your child’s behavior may be just a phase or if they might need professional help.
