C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry Heart Institute at Wolfson Children’s welcomes new pediatric heart specialists
Judy Ashouri, MD, Kaushal Dosani, MD and Umakumaran Ponniah, MD, bring expertise in electrophysiology, advanced cardiac imaging and critical care.
Pediatric electrophysiologist Judy Ashouri, MD, pediatric cardiac intensivist Kaushal Dosani, MD and pediatric cardiologist and cardiac imaging specialist Umakumaran Ponniah, MD, have joined the C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry Heart Institute at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. The addition of the three new pediatric cardiac specialists continues the expansion of Wolfson Children’s heart services across Northeast Florida and the region.
Dr. Ashouri is a pediatric electrophysiologist. She received her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. She completed her pediatrics residency at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C.; a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the University of California San Francisco; and a fellowship in pediatric electrophysiology at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Dosani is a pediatric cardiac intensivist employed by Nemours Children’s Health, Jacksonville. He received his medical degree from Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College and Research Center in Mumbai, India. Dr. Dosani completed his pediatrics residency at the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Medicine. He completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.
Dr. Ponniah, a pediatric cardiologist, most recently served as an associate professor of pediatric cardiology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, Oklahoma City. He previously served as an assistant professor of pediatric cardiology at the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University in Syracuse and as a lecturer at M.S. Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore, India.
He received his medical degree from Karnataka Medical College in Hubballi, India, and a master’s degree in pediatrics from the Institute of Child Health at Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, India.
He completed a pediatric residency, earning a Diploma in Child Health at Mysore Medical College in Mysore, India. He also completed a pediatrics residency at Milton Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pennsylvania, and served as a registrar in Neonatology at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, Australia. He completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.
Dr. Ponniah has undergone advanced cardiac imaging training and serves as the director of non-invasive imaging at Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
Wolfson Children’s Hospital and the Terry Heart Institute are the only providers of full range congenital cardiac services for children and adults in Jacksonville. The addition of these providers ensures timely access to super-specialty pediatric cardiology practitioners and state-of-the-art cardiac care for the growing population of Jacksonville.
